I extend my felicitation to The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) for commemorating the World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, 2011 with the collaboration of Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA). The rights of consumers are an integral part of human rights agenda, specifically elaborated in the guidelines for consumer protection formulated by United Nations General Assembly in 1985, Pakistan is also signatory to the UN Guidelines on Con¬sumer Protection. These guidelines provide a framework to safeguard the consumers against deception and fraud. I appreciate the efforts of The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) which it is making for consumer awareness and assure that government stands committed to supporting all positive initiatives in this regard. Quality Standards and Consumer Rights Protection are the key issue and have great importance in our up¬coming society due to the fast changing economic and socio economic conditions there is need for consumer activism to protect their rights. Consumer protection laws have been enacted to regulate a relationship between in¬dividual, consumers and the businesses that sell those goods and provide services. 'These laws cover a wide range of topics, including product liability, privacy rights, unfair business practices and other consumer/business interactions. These laws enable consumers to express their concerns for the food they eat, the medicines they take, the water they drink or the products they use at homes. Towards this end our corporate sector must meet international quality standard by achieving a very high degree of consumer satisfaction.

I am pleased to know that The Consumer Eye Pakistan (TCEP) is organizing a seminar on the event of World Consumer Rights Day on 15th March 2011. The objective of the seminar is to highlight the issues relating to consumer rights and consumer protection, create awareness against sub-standard, adulterated and counterfeit products and services and the need to forcefully implement laws for Consumer Protection. I am happy that again on this World Consumer Rights Day-2011 Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has joined hands with The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) in the celebrations of World Consumer Rights Day to meet the future challenges by channeling all the available sources and capabilities. It is government's responsibility to promulgate and enforce consumer protection laws. However, in this regard, NGO's, The Consumer Eye Pakistan (TCEP), Sindh Journalist's Network (SIN) and Standards Gazette International can play an effective role in highlighting the issues pertaining to the Consumer rights. PSQCA being a National Standards body, working under administrative control of the Ministry of Science & Technology, intends to play a proactive role to protect not only the consumer's rights but also to facilitate the flourishing business of industrial sectors enabling them to compete the global markets on the basis of standard products. I appreciate the Consumer Eye Pakistan and other collaborating organizations for celebrating this day and sincerely hope that they will succeed in achieving the targets set for the occasion.

It is matter of great satisfaction that The Consumers Eye Pakistan (TCEP) with the collaboration of Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) and with the support of Sindh journalist’s Network (SJN) and Standards Gazette International are intends to play a proactive role to protect consumer’s rights in the country and they are commemorating World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, to highlight the need for protection of consumers as provided under UN guidelines. The PSQCA as National Standards body is committed to play its multi dimensional role of enhancing the competitiveness of local industry and trade for the optimum benefits of the business group entrepreneurs, consumers and the country as a hole.
